The Truth About Laser Hair Removal

A top choice solution to get rid of unwanted hair.

Tired of shaving, nairing, waxing? When it comes to hair removal, it seems that no matter which method is used, it's never good enough. Want to get rid of this never ending problem? Laser Hair Removal is becoming a top choice for people who want to destroy unwanted hair for good!

But, what is the best laser to use and place to go for the procedure? …truth is most people are very confused when it comes to this subject. Nowadays, everywhere you look laser hair removal is offered…at local spas, salons, dermatologists, gynecologists and plastic surgeons!

Dr. Robert Guida, NYC Plastic Surgeon tells us that many people get confused because there are so many different lasers out there. The most common ones used are the Epilight, LightSheer and Lyra Laser. There are differences between all of these lasers – the price, the amount of treatments needed, the type of skin the laser can be used on and the end result.

The Epilight Laser and LightSheer Laser are found in most spas and salons. These two lasers have a lot in common. They both require more sessions to permanently remove hair than other lasers and people tend to need touch ups more frequently. Both of these lasers can only be used on people that have light skin and dark hair. If used on darker skin scarring and hyper pigmentation will occur. That means this laser will not work on tan skin! Both of these lasers tend to be less expensive then others because they don't work for everyone. The price for hair removal on the upper and lower legs runs about $500 per session and 6-8 sessions are needed.

Dr. Guida uses the Lyra Laser in his Manhattan office because he feels this is the safest and most effective laser to use. This laser requires less sessions and less touch ups. The end result is better than any other laser on the market because they destroy a larger percent of the hair particals during each session. Also, this laser can be used on any skin type, including African American or tanned skin without the risk of scarring and hyper pigmentation. This is more expensive than others, but the end result is better and there is less time involved. The price for hair removal for legs, upper and lower, tends to about $2,000 per session with 3-5 sessions needed.
